The Project

In 2025 we were commissioned to work with a group of Young Carers to explore their lived experiences, giving them a creative space to reflect on the things that they're passionate about. Working with young people from Morgan Academy, Grove Academy, St John's RC High School and Braeview Academy, we explored how we make comics and more importantly why we make comics - how sharing our stories can help people to connect and feel seen.

We looked at how the young people see themselves and the world around them, how they engage with self care when balancing caring and other responsibilities, and they shared what brings them joy in their day-to-day lives. The success of the project led to us being asked to return, working with a second group in January 2026 to explore the same themes.

These two zines - A Book of Tiny Tales and A Book of Carers’ Comics bring together real experiences, moments of escape, and celebrate the young people’s resilience. There are also some fun stories - look out for Nameless the Cheese Blob, Skeletor & Dr Horse, and The Cucumber Battle!
